N-Deal : Indo-US deal RealityNavtej Kohli had noticed many famous world news paper found a good one news which they are publishing like famous TV serial episode and debate over this matter but no one know what be real mean of this deal and what be real opinion of those who really make this deal .According to Navtej Kohli there are two sides exist in this deal one side N-deal and other side India even US senator and other major countries watch out for India move with hope that India figure out actual Performa with changes .
But whatever the deal and whatever world politics over this matter, yet Indian politics had seen many changed after this deal induction. Left parties, part of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, opposing this deal and also withdrew their support and also moved out from the government and also opposition alliance NDA tearing the deal as “unequal.” .
Left and both NDA alliance which is led by BJP then came into same views when they are opposing that deal and publicly states “while the country would have no assurance of uninterrupted fuel supplies for its civilian nuclear reactors.” While we are taking Hyde Act under consideration which provides legal basis for a 123 agreement , but also having tow faces . Both in turn give off a third dimension that is emerging in the growing US tilt toward India. The heavy lobbying — both for and against — in the US and India on the deal and the personal push of both American President George W. Bush and Indian Premier Manmohan Singh speak of a new thrust and trust between the two nations. Some changes are required before India go for deal , Indian government had cited many times in press conference .Many economist had suggest that India had to just check out his own economical and power needs and then forwarding his step .
India want clean and Green power resources since a long time. Expert had already stated that power generation of India had already below 15 to 20 percent against requirement, the gap between power supply and demand can be slow down Indian economy again. If government want to sustain economy growth above 8 percent over next quarter of century India will need to at least triple its primary energy supply and quintuple its electrical capacity. India had to revised his energy policy and make an effective environment friendly energy policy which be able to sustain Indian economy growth .
Although India had depend upon his thermal power for his needs and coal for making electricity but its be weeel known that Indian coal is very rough quality and take highly expensive infrastructure to clean and moreover using coal in huge amount is not environment friendly . Moreover Indian dependency on foreign oil and natural gas resources , inefficient electric systems and unreliable power grids reason behind irregular blackouts . Many claims had already made by government to sort out this problem by interrupted Gas supply with cheaper rate as well as future nuclear power plants . Moreover India had marked as drag-down country by many economists ,especially since the proposed hydroelectric projects have run into problems, with social and political issues preventing quick implementation..
The experts says that , the N-deal policy having big flaw is that only it forms only three percent of India’s total commercial energy mix and also not clearly define about how much cost for the India for imported fuel, equipment and technology.
Moreover India is also looking to future plan for making energy with like hydropower, wind and solar energy. The detractors also question the fact of foreign dependency. They ask, what would happen to the enormous investments in nuclear power plants and by the end-users of the anticipated power supplies from nuclear reactors if for any reason the US halts nuclear cooperation with India?
Some bad experience like Tarapore when the US halted fuel following India’s explosion of the peaceful nuclear experiment in May 1974. The TAPS-1 and 2 light water reactors (LWRs), built by General Electric of the United States and designed by Bechtel, use LEU (low-enriched Uranium) as fuel and under a 1963 agreement, US were to supply fuel for 30 years. But the US, citing the Nuclear Nonproliferation Act of 1978, denied fuel to the two units.
Experts says that India having little choices and nuclear power can fulfill India energy requirement and India-US N-deal would be ultimate solution for this and also helpful for economy . commerce, trade , development and FDI (foreign direct investment).
Some roughly estimate for this “ for next 15 year power supply India need 10 large size nuclear power plants , India have to exports technology and hardware near about 50 percent of its projects and cost of these plants around $4 billion. India had tied up with a vision of his FDI and other commercial loans . Moreover that deal beneficial for both sides. These deals also open the door for various industries and US also looking for low cost supplier. Moreover India and china also want pack up with each other with this deal.
Besides energy India will be enabling to get money for other needs like infrastructure and manufacturing and can make India new power in the world. India are also in beliefs that in future India have work force as the transfer of technology and knowledge ensues between the partners also US is looking for cheaper and skilled technologist.
Currently Indian nuclear power plants are designed and run by foreign corporation and most of experts says that technology already exists and has proven to be safe, and also a homegrown technology will trigger the need to import critical components — sending India back to the same players. But what is most amazing part of that deal is that India will have be part of trillion-dollar energy club and its full fill India household and farms needs which can changed Indian life and welcoming new power Zone, especially since India would not be stuck with a one-sided Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline deal. This would have held India permanently hostage to Pakistan.
But thee are some hard sides also , its the traditional national consensus on India foreign policy , many person are in lurch while deals entails and what be patriotism came .
On the other side US considering India as major political and economical on the world map and want to make his calibration in advance which be beneficial for both countries .
